The HR generalist performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits, compensation, employee relations, training, employment, labor relations, affirmative action and employment equity programs. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Functions

  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resource functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
  • Works with hiring managers to post and recruit candidates to fill vacant positions. 
  • Facilitates or provides training (including orientation) to the workforce; conducts new hire orientation.
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs.
  • Administers benefits programs such as health, dental and disability insurance, and leaves of absence.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Meets with employees and managers to appropriately resolve employee relations issues.
  • Maintains employee files.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Participates in benefits Open Enrollment preparation meetings, arranges for staff meetings, prepares and collects all necessary communications and paperwork.
  • Assists with all compliance issues and updates policies as needed.
  • Assists the Business Office with the monthly processing of Payroll and daily operations of the TimeClock system to process employee hours and leave time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business or a related field or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work independently and learn quickly.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • PHR, SHRM-CP or SPHR, SHRM-SCP Certification is preferred.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • A minimum of one year experience in human resource management.
