Position Summary


The Accounts Payable Specialist is a full-time hourly position with a primary responsibility of providing superior customer service to clients and processing all accounts payable payments in a timely and efficient manner for Truman State University and Truman State University Foundation.  This position reports to the Supervisor of Accounts Payable and Grants and pays $12.88 per hour.  This position offers great benefits, including medical insurance, generous vacation accruals, and several paid holidays.



This position processes all aspects of accounts payable, including, but not limited to the following: audit requisitions, expense reports, and invoices for appropriate documentation, financial accuracy, funds availability and approval prior to payment; enter the invoice information into the ERP financial system; ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws; organize and manage large volumes of documents and correspondences, as well as, match up invoices, receiving reports, and purchase orders for payment documentation; assist with monthly account reconciliations; serve as the face of accounts payable which requires providing excellent customer service through all forms of written and oral communication, in addition to, exhibiting professionalism and teamwork at all times; obtain appropriate tax forms from vendors, set up vendors, and maintain vendor file.  Perform other duties as assigned.



Required qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent; proficiency in data entry; expertise using Microsoft Office products for e-mail, word processing, and spreadsheets; ability to quickly learn software systems; effective and professional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; meet both quality and quantity standards through accuracy, prioritization, detail-orientation, organization, and an ability to meet weekly payment deadlines; exceptional customer service skills; proficiency at working both independently and with others; strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; flexibility and adaptability; history of dependability and reliability; exhibit professionalism, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic; safeguard confidential information; possess a desire and willingness to quickly learn and retain significant amounts of information involving policies, procedures, and laws; need to be able to work productively and quietly in an open-office environment, amidst several interruptions and competing priorities.


Preferred qualifications include general working knowledge of accounting principles; applicable college coursework, an associate’s degree, or applicable certification; at least one year of applicable work experience; experience using financial software, particularly enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
