The Dean of Student Life oversees general operations, personnel and budget responsibility for Campus Recreation, Citizenship and Community Standards, and Union and Involvement Services.  In addition, the Dean of Student Life manages contracts with campus partners providing services through the Student Health Center and the University Counseling Services (Complete Family Medicine, a service of Hannibal Regional Medical Services) and the Truman State University Bookstore (Follett Higher Education Group.)

The Administrative Assistant for the Dean of Student Life performs essential duties and functions to ensure efficient and effective operations related the Student Life Unit.   This position supports a unit with broad and varying functions, and has responsibility for supervising 5-7 student employees.  Independent judgment is used within established procedures and decisions made may have impact on areas outside the Office of or unit of Student Life.  The Administrative Assistant is supervised by the Dean of Student Life. 

Occasionally, evening or weekend hours may be required on a very limited basis.  This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible position. However, the University is also open to a reduced schedule work arrangement (with benefits) or a part-time work arrangement.


  1. Provide administrative support to the Dean of Student Life (DSL) and the Director of Citizenship and Community Standards (OCCS)
  2. Serve as office manager for the Dean of Student Life Office
  3. Supervise student employees
  4. Administrative Liaison with callers and visitors to the office, as well as other colleagues on campus
  5. Manages daily calendars and schedules for the Dean of Student Life and the Director of OCCS
  6. Budget and records management
  7. Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (or GED)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software applications and email
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic calendaring systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Confidence to learn how to use and become comfortable with larger, more complex computer data management systems
  • Proven Interpersonal skills and reputation for providing high quality customer service
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff members and parents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or two years full-time experience in a secretarial/administrative assistant position
  • Experience editing web page content
  • Previous experience in a higher education setting
