Assistant Professor of Accounting

Position:  The department of Accounting is seeking applicants for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Accounting to start August 2022.  Applicants must be able to teach tax courses.  This position is for full-time appointment on a nine-month contract.  Teaching responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in taxation (in-person, online, and hybrid format) and introductory accounting courses.   Scholarly activity and output appropriate to rank is expected consistent with the teacher-scholar model.  Additional duties (after the first year) include advising; mentoring of students in research and other experiences; and service to the university and community.

The preferred candidate will have a PhD, DBA, or equivalent doctoral level degree(s) in Accounting or a closely related field (ABD considered with May 2023 completion date).  Candidates with both a JD and Master of Accountancy with accounting related work experience will be considered.

Applicants will be evaluated based on academic qualifications; evidence and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in tax and accounting; ability to teach other courses in the department or school; commitment to student success and development; sustained professional and academic engagement activities necessary to maintain scholarly academic or practice academic status; professional certifications; strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills; and a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as a teacher-scholars; and compatibility with department needs.

The Program:  The Department of Accounting, a unit within the School of Business, offers a BS in Accounting and Master of Accountancy.  Additionally, the School of Business offers a BS and BA in Business Administration and a minor in Business. The School of Business holds both business and accounting accreditation from Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, the premier global accreditation body. This distinction has only been achieved by approximately 1.5% of universities worldwide.  Beginning with the Fall 2021 academic year, the Masters program will be offered both in person and online.  For the 2019 CPA exam, Truman students ranked 4th in the nation for medium sized programs, 14th in the nation for all programs, and 1st in the nation for the CPA Exam Success Index.

The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. In addition to being the home of Truman, Kirksville is the birthplace of osteopathic medicine and features a medical school, dental school and community college.  The Kirksville School District is consistently recognized for academic excellence. The community takes pride in several annual events including the Round Barn Blues Festival and the FLATS Trail Half-Marathon. The charming downtown area features an arts center, as well as several local shops and restaurants. It is also the site of numerous community events including the Red, White and Blue Festival in the summer and the Red Barn Arts and Craft Festival each fall. Just a few minutes outside of town is beautiful Thousand Hills State Park with hiking and biking opportunities surrounding the 700-acre Forest Lake.
