Truman State University welcomes applications for the position of Research and Instruction Librarian at Pickler Memorial Library. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with some evening and weekend hours. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designing and conducting instruction sessions as part of the library’s information literacy program including teaching a 1-credit library course and participating in first-year experience initiatives.
  • Creating and maintaining research guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials to support the development of information literacy concepts and to promote library resources and services.
  • Providing high quality reference and research assistance in-person, by phone, and online.
  • Monitoring trends in emerging technologies and working with staff to incorporate them into library services and instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments.
  • Participating in collection development activities and serving as a liaison to campus departments in assigned disciplines.

Pickler Memorial Library is a member of MOBIUS, a multi-state consortium of academic and public libraries.

Required Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited Master’s of Library/Information Science degree by start date.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction with a demonstrated ability to teach.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging instructional and library-related technologies.
  • Knowledge of basic web design and digital content creation tools.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of information resources and tools to support research assistance to patrons.
  • Strong commitment to public service and teamwork with the ability to work successfully with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with instruction and reference services in an academic library setting.
  • Experience using Social Media for marketing and promotion of library services.
  • Familiarity with WordPress for website design

The Community:
Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. In addition to being the home of Truman, Kirksville is the birthplace of osteopathic medicine and features a medical school, dental school and community college, and the Kirksville School District is consistently recognized for academic excellence.
