POSITION SUMMARY: Provide service to patrons and oversee night-time operations of the Library Service Desk.  Process incoming MOBIUS shipments as well as schedule, train and supervise student workers and night monitors.  Maintain overall security of the Library at night.


  • Oversee night-time operations of the Library Service Desk.  Scheduled hours are from late afternoon until closing at approximately 11:00 pm/midnight; work week typically Sunday through Thursday for 8 months, 8-5, Monday-Friday for 2 months.
  • Maintain overall security of the Library at night and coordinate clearing of the building at closing. Respond to emergency situations and coordinate response with other University offices and staff, e.g. Physical Plant, Public Safety.
  • Staff the Library Service desk and assist with the management of the Print, Scan, Copy area including troubleshooting equipment issues.  Provide customer service to patrons and enforce Library policies as needed. Service as a point person for evening staff from other departments and units such as ITS, Sodexo, and custodians.
  • Supervise and train Library Service Desk student workers and night monitors.  Assign and monitor duties of other departmental student workers as needed; manage the scheduling of approximately 16 student workers (night monitors and desk).
  • Process incoming MOBIUS shipments, issue guest internet accounts, and process Community Borrower cards. Coordinate and complete departmental work (ILL, Reserves etc.) at night as needed.

Assist with the promotion of library services and works with other departments on special projects as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Access and Public Services Manager.





  • High school diploma or G.E.D.


  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. 
  • Strong public service orientation and the ability to use tact and good judgment in dealing with patrons and staff. 
  • Knowledge of standard computer applications with the ability to learn additional software.



  • College coursework


  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience working in a library
